The rectangular areas stretching back from Mason Street here are gardens at the rear of houses on Back Mason Street (just off the left of the map). Later, houses were built here. These were subsequently demolished and the 'Paddington Gardens' flats were built on the site. These, in turn, were demolished in 1999 and the new Williamson Student Village took their place. One may assume that the houses which replaced these gardens were built by Williamson as underground structures were eventually discovered beneath this area.
