· Response to our new direction |
|
We have just received a letter from the architect representing the developers, written in response to our letter informing them of our new direction (see Annual General Meeting, below). In brief, their letter says that they will not be amending their plans because they can see no viable use for the tunnels. This response was not unexpected. |

At a recent meeting with the Tourism Dept. of Liverpool City Council we told council officers about the hugely successful conversion of historic underground caves in Notingham into a tourist attraction. The council were interested and asked FoWT to gather information on the Nottingham Caves and use this to back up our claims for the Williamson tunnels. So, a number of the FoWT committee went to Nottingham on 7th June and had a most enjoyable tour of the Nottingham tunnels, guided by Paul Nix, fellow 'mole', who excavated much of the system for many years. (Thanks to Margaret Harrison for letting us in at a reduced price!). Our new Nottingham friends gave us plenty of good advice, having themselves won the battle that we now face, and we are very grateful. Some of the FoWT committee are seen above watching a video display inside the reception area of the tunnels tour. |
