· The general situation

Given the news about the survey in the previous news report, it appears that the effort to save the tunnels is now entering the eleventh hour. The committee of the 'Friends' can and will do everything it can but we really need any help we can get. Please don't be shy about contacting us - any suggestion, however obvious or small it might seem will be gratefully received. Your idea or help could be the little bit extra that changes minds and stops the great labyrinth being reduced to rubble.

· Membership news

Concerned enthusiasts continue to join FoWT. Many are astonished not only to learn that the tunnels actually exist (for many years they were just a rumour) but are aghast at the fact that they could be destroyed very soon. One recent recruit stated that if the tunnels existed in somewhere like America they would have been cleared out, renovated and opened to the public with full visitors facilties within a few weeks. A good point - one simply should not let a place with such enormous potential be destroyed for such an unnecessary reason. Anyway, we continue to rally support. Our thanks to the Liverpool Ranger Service who allowed some of us to speak at one of their excellent guided walks around Liverpool on 8th February. Dozens of those present signed our petition and took away membership details.
