This shows the descent from ground level down into the entrance chamber, with daylight coming in from the manhole in the floor of the house. The ladder is standing on tightly packed rubble - the real floor being some unknown depth below. Just beyond the ladder is a left-right turn which leads into the gash, which, in turn leads into the Banqueting Hall.
