<< back to the house
Although almost all the structures which Williamson built above land are long gone, a number of sections of wall remain - not least the boundary wall of his property, plus the odd innocuous-looking section of wall dotted along Mason Street. The facade of the house presumed to be his own has at its rear an easily missed feature, shown here. If you zoom in to the circled area on the left, you can make out a pair of initials, blown up below. These are on the back of the original string coursing and are in relief, proud of the stone rather than being carved into it. This suggests that they date from the time the stone was worked ... perhaps one of Williamson’s men leaving his trademark?
