Cavern uncovered during building This feature was uncovered during clearance of the site for construction of the new Williamson Student Village. Under the supervision of an assistant of the County Archaeologist, the cavern was dug out and we organised a rope access technician to be lowered into it through the (already) broken arched roof. He ended up two storeys under ground. This seemed to be one of those 'junction' points scattered throughout the tunnels. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to find any tunnels branching off this point as the rubble pulled out had to be poured back in again in order for building to continue. This does not negate the possibility of regaining access to this cavern by approaching it under ground, through a tunnel elsewhere on the site.
