If we follow the second storey right round to underneath the new steel steps, we find this area which is unique in all the Williamson tunnels accessible at this time. This is a place where Williamson's men were cutting neat blocks out of the sandstone bedrock. An explorer is pointing to one of the 'trenches' where a block has been cut. As seen throughout the tunnels, these blocks were then used to line walls and to make arched roofs.
